Jules Horne

The Storymaker’s Secrets:
The magic ingredients of Border tales and ballads.

Author Jules Horne reveals the secrets behind the great Border tales and ballads. What’s their enduring fascination? Why are they read and loved all over the world? A look at the art and drama of Borders storytelling, and how the people of the past still speak loud and clear to the present.

Playwright and fiction writer Jules Horne was born in Hawick and, after many years abroad, now lives back in the Borders. She’s written drama for Edinburgh’s Traverse Theatre, BBC Radio 4 and BBC Scotland, as well as widely published short stories. She teaches on the Creative Writing MLitt at Glasgow University’s Crichton Campus, and was the Scottish Arts Council’s first Virtual Writing Fellow. She has also spent time working in France on a National Library of Scotland Robert Louis Stevenson Fellowship.

Philip Nixon

Professional Photographer Philip Nixon is a multi-award winning professional photographer of vast experience who has been commissioned by companies and organisations all over England. He runs his own photographic library of over 40,000 images and his work has been published worldwide in countless magazines, newspapers, calendars, brochures and books.

He runs popular weekly photography classes in Durham and also photographic workshops at various times throughout the year. Philip also photographs, writes and produces big screen multi-media presentations which are always in great demand and which he presents all over the country. The subjects he has covered include, County Durham, Land of the Prince Bishops; Northumbria; St Cuthbert; Field and Fell and Drystone Wall and The Border Reivers.
